Shared Tour: Herculaneum Tour from Sorrento
On this half-day excursion, guests will spend the morning exploring the ancient Roman town of Herculaneum. At a scheduled time, they will reach the meeting point and drive to the remnants of Herculaneum, once a thriving town. In AD 79, it was one of two settlements buried under a thick layer of volcanic ash in the massive eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Upon reaching, guests will take in splendid views of the town from a location high above, before descending to the ruins for their hour-long guided tour. They will walk along the cobbled streets of the well-preserved settlement to see the shops, gymnasiums, and public baths still in place. Their guide will point out clay utensils and wooden ceiling beams that are visible inside some of the buildings while sharing stories and information about the long and ongoing excavation process. At the end of the poignant tour, guests will travel back to Sorrento.
