Shared Tour: Anne Frank Walking Tour Through the Jewish Quarter 5 PM
On this walking tour, guests will step back in time to World War II, visiting historical landmarks in Amsterdam’s Jewish Quarter. The tour will begin in the evening, with guests meeting their knowledgeable guide and setting off at an easy walk along the quaint streets. Travelers will see the 17th-century Portuguese Synagogue, designed by renowned architect Elias Bouman and once considered the largest in the world. Along the way, their guide will tell them about the local Jewish community and the impact of World War II on the city. Another prominent landmark on the route is Hollandsche Schouwburg, a former theater building used to temporarily house thousands of Jewish people assigned to concentration camps. Guests will also visit the central office of the Jewish Council as well as hiding places used by the Dutch resistance to protect Jewish families. The guide’s riveting narrative peppered with important dates and historical facts, provides insight into life during the German occupation of Holland. The tour winds up at the Anne Frank House Museum, located in the building where the Jewish teenager hid out with her family for about two years. Guests who have bought tickets to the museum in advance, can then browse the exhibits before making their way back to the hotel.
