Shared Tour: Anne Frank Walking Tour Through the Jewish Quarter 12 PM
On this poignant walking tour, guests will step back in time to World War II as they visit the historical landmarks in Amsterdam’s Jewish Quarter. In the morning, they will meet their knowledgeable guide and set off at an easy pace along the quaint streets. Travelers will see the Portuguese Synagogue, designed by renowned architect Elias Bouman, and the largest in the world at the time of its construction in the 17th century. Along the way, the guide will share his knowledge about the city’s Jewish community and the impact of World War II. Another prominent landmark on the route is Hollandsche Schouwburg, a former Dutch theater building that was used to house thousands of Jewish people before they were sent to concentration camps. Guests will also visit the central office of the Jewish Council as well as hiding places used by the Dutch resistance to protect Jewish families. The guide’s narrative peppered with important dates and historical facts, will provide insight into life during the German occupation of Holland. The tour will wind up at the Anne Frank House Museum, located in the building where the Jewish teenager hid out with her family for about two years. Guests who have purchased the museum tickets in advance can then browse the exhibits at leisure before making their way back to the hotel.
