Private Tour: Secrets of Historical Amsterdam
On this personalized guided walking tour, guests will explore the historic city center of Amsterdam that dates back more than 700 years. Much of the old city, with its canals and patrician houses, was planned and built during the 17th and early 18th centuries, also known as the Dutch Golden Age. In the afternoon, guests will make their way to the Dam Square and meet their personal tour guide outside the Royal Palace. The private history walk will begin from the 17th-century palace grounds, also covering other iconic landmarks like the New Church and the Mint Tower (or Munttoren). Guests will learn about the city’s incredible heritage, crisscrossed as it was by a network of canals and more than a thousand bridges! They will visit some of these iconic bridges and canals, and stroll along the Amstel River. The walk also includes the Begijnhof, which is home to the city's oldest surviving house, “Het Houten Huis” (No. 34), dating from around 1420. It is one of the city’s only two wooden-fronted houses, as timber houses were banned in 1521 after a series of catastrophic fires.
