This multi-day tour of Normandy and Brittany is a wonderful way to soak in the rich history and traditions of these coastal regions. Led by a private driver-guide over four exciting days, guests will visit ancient monuments, World War II battle sites, and the island monastery of Mont-Saint-Michel among others. On the first day, guests will drive to the riverside city of Rouen, with a stop at the quaint town of Honfleur that has inspired painters, writers, and musicians for centuries. The day will end at Bayeux, where travelers will visit the beautiful 12th-century cathedral. They will also view the Tapestry of Bayeux, a 203-foot-long jewel of Romanesque art which provides a realistic account of the Battle of Hastings in 1066. On the second day, guests will cross the Pegasus Bridge as they head to Arromanches-les-Bains, the German coastal artillery battery of Longues Sur Mer, and the American Cemetery at Saint Laurent. Later, they will also stop at Omaha Beach and the cliffside Pointe du Hoc, which played a pivotal role in World War II. The third day of this engrossing tour is dedicated to discovering the tiny island of Mont Saint Michel, set about half a mile off the coast. Its UNESCO-listed Gothic style Benedictine abbey is a pilgrimage shrine for Christians and makes for a breathtaking sight. In the afternoon, guests will travel to the ancient walled port city of Saint-Malo, once a stronghold for privateers or pirates approved by the king. On the last day, participants will delight in exploring the picturesque fishing village of Cancale, and the summer resort town of Dinard with its casinos, glamorous villas, and luxury hotels. The tour will conclude with a visit to the stunning medieval city of Dinan perched high above the River Rame. Afterwards, guests will be driven to their hotel or another previously arranged central location.
