Private Half Day Tour of Corinth
This tour will be operated for you only and is entirely private. Your
personal guide and English-speaking driver will be at your call. Your driver will pick you up from the arranged point to start this wonderful half day sightseeing tour of Ancient Corinth. Heading out to Ancient Corinth, your first stop will be at Corinth Canal. A short stop to rest and see the narrow canal which separates mainland Greece from the Peloponnese peninsula. The canal is an engineering marvel, the building of which spanned many centuries, it was first begun by Roman emperor Nero, and completed in the 19th century. Continue on to the site of ancient Corinth, a short drive from the modern city of Corinth (population 24,000). Ancient Corinth was capital of the province and the one of the richest and largest cities of Ancient Greece. Strategically located guarding the narrow isthmus that connects the Peloponnese to the mainland, it was a powerful commercial centre near two seaports. Corinth, considered to be the home to the legendary Jason of the
Argonauts, stealer of the Golden Fleece. The streets of AncientCorinth were once trodden by the likes of Pausanias and Saint Paul. Follow in their footsteps and visit the Temple of Apollo, the ancient theatre of the Peribolos of Apollo, and other site highlights. The ruinsare mostly Romaic, but the 5th century BC temple of Apollo which isof Doric style dominates over the site. Corinth’s history spans from pre-historic times, and the traces of each period can be seen at this very interesting site.
