Private Afternoon Half Day Marken, Volendam, & Windmills Tour (4 hours)

On this private tour, guests will leave the bustle of Amsterdam behind and travel to the picturesque Dutch countryside to the north of the city. The tour will begin in the morning with guests being picked up from their downtown hotel in a private vehicle. Guests can add any specific sights to their itinerary if they wish, by simply informing their driver-guide. Traveling past canals and verdant farmlands, they will arrive at the picturesque neighborhood of De Zaanse Schans in Zaandam. With its five historic windmills and bright green wooden houses, this area is akin to a typical late 18th to early 19th-century village. Participants will hear facts and stories from their guide about the region’s past as an industrial area with nearly 700 functional windmills, though only five are left today. Next, they will drive to the scenic lakeside town of Volendam to view fine examples of traditional Dutch architecture and the famous colorful fishing boats. After a stroll around the charming town, they will journey to the fishing village of Marken with its harbor and dyke. Later, they will be dropped off at their hotel or a pre-arranged location.

Inclusions:

Transportation to/from hotel in a private airconditioned vehicle with an English-speaking driver. This is subject to change depending on the day of tour.

Exclusions:

Lunch, accredited tour guide, parking fees, entrances, and gratuities for driver.

Meeting point:

Hotel lobby of downtown hotels only or central location.

Ending point:

Hotel lobby or a central location pre-arranged with the driver.

Not suitable for:

wheelchairs, walkers, canes or strollers.

Important Information:

Tour pick-up times can be flexible but must be confirmed at the time of booking.

Drivers can provide a panoramic tour with highlights, but they are not licensed tour guides. As per the regulations, they are not allowed to escort guests inside historic sites or offer commentary inside the sites.

This tour involves some walking; please wear comfortable shoes.

This tour is provided on a reserved basis prior to departure.
