On this comprehensive tour, guests will explore the sites of the historic Normandy landings from WWII, and an important medieval Christian pilgrimage shrine. Setting off with a private driver-guide, participants will drive northwest to the Normandy region. The first stop is Pegasus Bridge in Bénouville, the first to be liberated in 1944. Next, they will visit Arromanches with its remains of the artificial harbor that was built in just 15 days. There, guests will also watch a film offering insights into the first hours of D-Day. Next, guests will head to the German coastal artillery battery at Longues-sur-Mer that played a crucial role during World War II. There will be free time for lunch before they visit the American Cemetery of Saint Laurent next. Afterwards, they will head to Omaha Beach, a symbol of the sacrifice of American soldiers in World War II since June 6, 1944. The last stop of the day is Pointe du Hoc, where Colonel James Rudder and the US 2nd Ranger Battalion heroically destroyed a battery of guns. At the end of the day, guests will check into their accommodation in the Bayeux area. The second day of this engrossing tour will be spent on the tiny island of Mont Saint Michel, set about half a mile off the coast. Guests will enjoy a guided visit of this UNESCO-listed Gothic style Benedictine abbey founded in the 8th century, which was once a prominent Christian pilgrimage shrine. Besides the Romanesque Church with the monk’s cloisters and refectory, guests will see chapels such as Saint Stephen, Saint Martin, and Our Lady Underground. Later, they will have free time for lunch at their own expense, before enjoying a stroll along the narrow streets of the island. At the end of the tour, they will return to Paris.
